Lubricants can be solids, such as plastic beads, glass beads, nut shells and graphite, or liquids such as oils, synthetic fluids, glycols, modified vegetable oils, fatty acid soaps and surfactants. A lubricant provides a protective film that allows two surfaces contact to be separated, thus reducing friction between them. The two main categories of lubricants are those that are organic and those that are synthetic. The Specialties include any type of industrial lubricant or power train, fuel, basic materials, intermediates, additives, functional chemicals, coolant, oil or process. As with other lubricants, their job is to reduce wear and friction between moving objects (like Engine Parts), allowing more time operation and increased efficiency. This reference summarizes current knowledge about different materials that are added to lubricants to improve their performance characteristics.

Oil as a lubricant

Oil – A general term for a thick liquid, insoluble in water that has lubricating properties. You may be tempted to use other types of oil that you have in your home or WD-40 or something, but many of those things that are flammable and which only serve to damage the grinder or worse. In the nineteenth past, synthetic additives extended the effectiveness of old age as oil lubricants. Emulsifying agents are sometimes added to oils to produce fluid cutting, which is mixed with water. The main objective of changing the oil, of course, is to remove pollutants because in most cases, the lubricant is physically and chemically suitable for continuous service. Due to environmental concerns, disposal of waste oils is heavily regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
