General Accoutrements Vest: Solution or problem?

Author: Doug Nicholson

There has been a series of articles, forum posts, and choir practice conversations over recent years in all organizations Police in Australia about the adequacy of apparel belts that were sent to the uniformed members of operation.

The "failure" of these belts is that they can not carry the many tools needed for the surveillance operation these days, and of greatest concern for these belts question are in fact causing serious injuries among officers. These injuries range from insomnia, back strains, worsening sciatic, and a host of other injuries that in many cases is considered an accident.

Obviously, if a computer is causing harm, or not at the level required of it, then something should be done, right?

But what options are there?

NSW Police has sought the issuance of a different type of belt to see if that solves the problem. For some people it has. But then you have the stupid problem of the tape used in practice to is the belt members are allowed to use when carrying out their OSTT / firearms re-qualifications. Just another example of idiots running things ….. but let's not go there.

Almost all organizations of Police in Australia have "tested" a vest attire for members of GD. Some of these trials was operating members using the service vests and provide feedback. Other Trials, and the only ones I've seen personally, is a case of the vest sitting in the office of a non-operating member, and all decisions be based in an office environment.

Apparently, the consensus general was that the vest is too "tactical" or "military" in appearance, and we all know how our Police adverse respective managers in connection with our police to be seen as anything other than blue Care Bears. The fact that very similar vests are used by ambulance officers happily seems to be ignored by police management.

Somehow, another vest was of origin, and tasted. The General attire Vest " (GAV) is made by an Australian company, personal protective clothing (PPC), Victoria. Again, this vest has been "tested" by the police operational and I have yet to hear an officer who has tested, saying they would use. In fact, the only comments I have received from the official tests to be refused to use it after a day due to the fact that it was too hot to wear, or who seemed utterly ridiculous.

But they have been ignored. At least one Australian police organization has announced that these vests will be launched. The initial idea is that it will only be provided as an option for officers shorter, and possibly people with back injuries documented.

I have my concerns.

First, and this should be addressed. The vest seems rather a mainstay of steroids, or something from a cupboard set Sado-masochistic fantasy. PPC website states that the GAV provides the public with memory "visual only". So clown costume, but that does not mean it's a good idea to have our frontline officers who had a clown suit!

I showed pictures of GAV police officers in Australia and abroad, as well as people who have never been agents police, and not one person said it was always a professional or even positive. Those who were too busy laughing very critical with the emergence of GAV. A term used to describe the vest for Queensland police officer was "Gay Action Vest.

Police needs all the help possible to do their job. Having the general public laughing at his appearance does not help.

Second, and more important is the ability of a GAV official use wear bulletproof vests. I tried to contact CFP to respond to this concern, but refuse to answer my emails or return my phone calls. Maybe they were too busy?

As for the armor, a number of points should be raised, not made in a previous article on GAV.

Accessories: The team held GAV includes an official radio, baton, wives, and ASR / OC. If the armor is placed on the GAV, after the team can not be used. Imagine being seriously injured and unable to seek help on his radio, because it is below his body armor? What about trying to defend against the assault that can not justify using his weapon, but his weapon is only accessible as everything else is under their body armor?

Projectiles / Blunt Force Trauma. Body armor is designed not only to stop the penetration of a bullet, but also to disperse the impact of the bullet over a wide area, to prevent broken bones, severe bruising to the organs, or the impact of the bullet causing other injuries severe, (imagine the force of a bullet to the heart?). The problem with having their accessories under armor is that it makes body armor to be uneven, which may allow penetration by bullets, or more likely, the force of the bullet is not dispersed, and may cause parts of your team that scored on his body. In reality, not a acceptable situation.

Perhaps the firm is designed to be placed on your body armor? Currently, to use bulletproof vests, However, a police officer has to do is put the armor.

If the GAV was going to use more armor, this is what should happen — GAV have to be removed, (itself not a preferred option as the probability of losing the kit is larger), put the body armor, set to a size of GVA more, and then put back GAV. Much more time consuming process, and if the situation warrants the use of open flak jackets, then the time is usually something that you or the public, no.

But why is the GAV being tested? What is the justification of spending a very significant portion of taxpayers' money in this test ….. thing?

Current thinking by the directors of the Police in relation with police matters described above is that the tape and only solution is to reduce the amount of weight on their belts. Police even many Union / articles of association have not been away from this thinking. NSW and Victoria Police have moved to using your thigh holsters for sidearms in their hypothesis misconception that will reduce the weight on the belt.

The police are to solve problems. They are meant to think outside the box so let's do it now.

If weight is the issue under police belts, how can we fix it?

Well, who carries the same weight on the belt?

U.S. Police do. Canadian police do. What to do to reduce weight on the belt? They wear suspenders. Uncle Mike is just a company that makes the belt straps Law Enforcement. They are designed to transfer of the weight of the shoulder belt, which is exactly what he intends to GVA, and the straps are designed to release if a parasite decided to use straps to hold an officer.

And when Legear can provide these suspenders $ 57.40 retail price, you have to ask why not "tried" before police agencies spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in the GAV. Although the organization just agreeing to reimburse members of the purchase of these braces, it would be much cheaper than its scheduled clown "costume" solution.

href = "http://www.legear.com.au/product-p/um-9120-4.htm"> target = "_blank" href = "http://www.legear.com.au/product- p/um-9120-4.htm "> http://www.legear.com.au/product-p/um-9120-4.htm

But is it? The lesions are all these official as easy to solve, with only one set of braces?

What about belts themselves? Why is that police in Australia are allowed to carry the belt has been granted and only the belt? Police 'must' belts are made by Safariland, Bianchi, Gould and Goodrich, Uncle Mike, 5.11, Blackhawk, gills, Legear, and a plethora of other recognized companies. But in the face of uncomfortable and injured officers, their employers insist they must take belt issue or face disciplinary action. In previous articles I mentioned that police organizations should allow their staff to lead a team to comply with a rule, not only to insist that a brand and model can be used.

I had a Bianchi belt for most of my time in the Police, and the biggest feature I noticed is that it allows more "Real Estate" on the front of the band belt Safariland edition, due to the belt buckle with a decorative false Safariland occupying much space. More space in your belt mens more ability to move his team to a comfortable position.

What if there is a belt? Why is it that in the last 11 years or so I've been involved in the police, I have heard of a Canadian or U.S. Police complained of injuries as a result of using the equipment belt? In most cases they actually have more teams officials on their belts of Australia. Australia officials are just bigger whingers?

No. It took me at my duty belt that all the police of others in my region (extra cuffs, extra magazine and extra torch), and did so for years. I got to sleep on concrete floors using the damned occasional breaks thing in my years of double shifts. Why is it that I have no back pain or injuries?

Exercise. A large percentage of U.S. and Canadian Police also exercise. While this issue can take up to a complete review in itself, is common knowledge that the best way prevention and rehabilitation of back injuries is proper exercise. Once you leave our respective police training schools There is no requirement or incentive for exercise, I can guarantee that has resulted in a large proportion of injuries to our frontline officers.

Instead of spending ridiculous amounts of money in an equally ridiculous looking vest, how about our eyes the management of the police in preventing injuries having police in shape? That really showed concern for the health and welfare of our police and not just protecting the organization claims future.
