Dilution
I can also use a little advice. If you are 40% for Hypo, which is the same as 400,000 ppm?
I need advice, a solution 50% (by weight) of NaOH in water contains many pounds of NaOH solution in a gallon? How many liters of 50% solution of NaOH is needed to react with 8.69 pounds of chlorine gas? NaClO How much in a solution of 12% (by weight) results? Nelsondsn 15:55 24 Jan 2007 (UTC)
What does you by 1:5? What does this mean 1 part water to 5 parts of chlorine? is the most effective. -Anon
It means 1 part bleach to four or five parts water is enough strong enough to kill bacteria.theresa Knott 22:08, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Now I remember: O) irismeister 18:07, 2004 Feb 13 (UTC)
A mixture of one part bleach and four parts water can be seen as a mixture of 1:4 or 1 in 5 dilution. – José Ramos 16:23, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Right. It is not and never 1 part bleach or five parts water, as erroneously say, "Well." and then agree?
The link to the hazardous chemical database in the property table the left is completely wrong. This chemical formula C10H10O, this Article is About NaClO. The link should be adequate http://ull.chemistry.uakron.edu/erd/chemicals/8/7063.html. This is a serious error by the author …
No, it is not. Unfortunately, the database of hazardous chemicals has changed all URLs. Not all frames have been updated yet (I'm about to do this one) but when they are going to remove the external links on the table, according to Wikipedia policy, to avoid this type of problem in the future. In 2000 Clorox Corporation changed its formulation of household bleach, increased the concentration of sodium hypochlorite of 5.25% and 6.00%, and called the "Ultra Clorox. The bottle size increased from 4 quarts U.S. to 3 liters U.S. the decrease in mass of water that is sent, and storage space requirements, but also decreased the total amount of sodium hypochlorite in the bottle. Most other brands of liquid chlorine in the U.S., including supermarket house brands, followed suit within a year, and now it is almost impossible to find the traditional concentration of 5.25%. This must be borne in mind when reading more recipes for the preparation of solutions for disinfection and sterilization. (Despite the dramatic increases in raw material prices in 1999, however, Clorox reported a record increase in profits next year, with the introduction Ultra Clorox and interruption of regular Clorox bleach. Hmmm …) – Anon 16:40, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Hypochlorite and trihalomethanes
I put the flag in POV Information owing largely blank box and the words of trihalomethanes. – Kvuo 00:56 August 20, 2005 (UTC)
Please! This is NOT a POV issue. Only a lack of information. I do not understand the issue of trihalomethanes, nor do I understand how mentioning trihalomethane that makes this a POV issue. Needless to say, I think POV flag should be removed immediately. ~ K, at 04:07 August 20, 2005 (UTC)
No, not a matter of POV, as we see in chemistry. However, the article it needs some serious copy editing to bring it in style. I am quite concerned by the lack of references for use in the chlorination of drinking water. BTW, an indication of trihalomethanes it's actually quite a good warning sign for a section of uncertain risks: I've seen much worse than this!
