I'm not sure about words or characters maximum, but … "The text files used by Notepad should not be greater than 45K. Notepad can not open a file that exceeds 54 kilobytes (K) in size and does not allow to continue editing a file if the file size reaches between 45K and 54K. "The Microsoft site is below.
