Exterior MMBT.
In its day, Madison Museum of Bathroom Tissue, established in 1992, was the largest and probably most important museum of Toilet Paper in the world. Before closing in 2000, "the MMBT "was located at 305 N. Hamilton in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, in a second-floor apartment, three blocks from the State Capitol. In addition to his impressive collection toilet paper all over the country and around the world, the museum included an audio tour and information screens detailing the history of toilet paper.
The collection
At its peak, the permanent collection of MMBT contained approximately 3,000 rolls of toilet paper. The origins of toilet paper in the bathrooms were other museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, the American tourist destinations such as Wall Drug and Graceland. The museum also boasted holdings extensive in Europe, Africa, Australia, Canada, Mexico and toilet paper, and an encyclopedic collection of toilet paper from the bars and restaurants located in Madison. Origins Collection
The roll of toilet paper that would result in the genesis of the WRM was collected by Carol Kolb and Franzino Geis in 1992 of the trophy room, in a bar in Lodi, WI. A bartender gave him the roll of toilet paper as a gift to two friends who had expressed their need for toilet paper for bathroom Geis.
